The Rome-Floyd Recycling Center has added an additional satellite trailer for citizens to recycle items with greater ease. The new trailer is located on Hicks Drive, in the Kmart parking lot, next to Blockbuster Video.
“We are thankful for recycling partners like Kmart, who without hesitation agreeing to assist us in our efforts to divert items from the landfill,” said Recycling Center Manager Mark Skeggs.
Floyd County residents also have two other locations for recycling. The new location is in the Piggly Wiggly parking lot on Maple Street in the Lindale community. The GMC Value Mart, 3402 Alabama Highway, is also another location where County residents can take recyclables. Materials accepted includes cardboard/paperboard, newspaper, glass bottles and jars, #1 and #2 plastic, steel cans and aluminum cans.
Rome and Floyd County recycled more than 8 million pounds of material in 2009 which saved more than 26,000 cubic yards of space in our landfill.
City residents can now recycle through curbside bins, satellite trailers, at the Recycling Center or remote sites. County residents can recycle at the same places, with the exception being curbside bins.
