Rome, Ga. - Both the City of Rome and Floyd County Public Works Departments have mulch sites that citizens can access free of charge, if self-loaded.
The City of Rome’s mulch site is located on Vaughn Road. Customers can pick up mulch Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. If a citizen needs assistance with loading, they should call 706.236.4570 or 4580 for an appointment time. Shovel loads are free. Larger loads are sold for a nominal cost: $7 for a pick-up load; $30 for a dump-truck load; and $50 for a tandem truck load.
“We are glad to be able to provide this service to the community,” said Kip Thompson, Director of Solid Waste Collections with the City of Rome.
The County has two mulch sites that are open and free to the public. One is located on S. 1st street in Lindale, across from Wolfe Park. This site is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Citizens can also pick up mulch at the Berryhill Remote Site, located on Berryhill Road. The remote site is closed on Mondays, but is open from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.
“The county collects large amounts of leaves, limbs and brush along the right of ways and from curbside pickup,” said Michael Skeen, Public Works Director for Floyd County. “Being able to grind this mixture up and provide it free of charge to the citizens is a win-win for both the County and the citizens, so we are happy to offer it.”
