Rome, Ga. - The Floyd County Board of Elections and Registrations announces that early voting for the November General Election will begin Monday, September 20th. Citizens can vote at the Elections Office Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm, through October 29th. We also will conduct Advanced Voting at the Civic Center October 25-29. The Elections Office is located at 12 East 4th Avenue in Downtown Rome. Voting will be done on the ground floor.
The Secretary of State has directed the Election Officials to begin the use of the scanners which will be used to scan the voter’s driver’s license. The November Election will be the first election in Floyd County where the Poll Workers use the scanners.
“The scanning process is very simple and will speed up the movement of voters through the line and allow them to vote in a timelier manner,” said Pete McDonald, Elections Board Chairman. “The use of the scanners does not capture any information from the person driver’s license. The scanning process simply uses the person’s information from the driver’s license to locate the voter in the Registered Voter database. The voter’s name, address, birth date and voting precinct are preloaded into the Express Poll machines from the Voter database. The scanning process simply allows the Poll Worker to locate the voter more quickly rather than doing the manual search for each voter.”
The use of the scanner is not required. If any citizen objects to the scanning of their driver’s license, the Poll Worker will go through the manual process of searching the Voter List contained in the Express Poll machine and create the yellow voter card. The manual process is used for verifying the voter by checking their photo id. This process ensures that the voter is registered properly prior to creating the yellow voter card, which the voter uses to cast their ballot on the Touch-Screen Voting machine.
