Workweek Schedule: 8pm-8am Shift; 40 hrs wkly; 2 days on/2 days off w/ 1 day modified schedule; Full-time w/benefits; Nonexempt
General Description:
The position is responsible for assisting in the operation of the City of Rome Water Treatment Facility to ensure that residents and industrial and commercial customers have safe and clean water in accordance with federal, state, and municipal policies and standards. Controls treatment facility machines and equipment to purify and clarify water for human consumption, industrial and commercial use. Operates and controls pumps and valves to regulate the flow of raw water being pumped into the treatment facility. Conducts a variety of laboratory testing during all stages of the water treatment process to verify correct composition of the water. Maintains proper levels in all chemical tanks and feeders. Monitors SCADA and adjusts controls to regulate flow rates, loss of head pressure, water elevation and distribution of water. Cleans filter beds using the correct backwashing methods. Handles calls from the public concerning water system problems. Records data such as residual content of chemicals, water turbidity, water pressure, etc. Cleans facilities, equipment, and maintains grounds. Work Experience Requirements:
Knowledge of water system operations; handling and application of chemicals that are required to maintain a safe water supply; water treatment facility operations; laboratory procedures; applicable safety procedures.
Skill in basic math; the use of a computer and applicable software applications.
Skill in water plant operations and the use of water analysis equipment; skill in the use of maintenance equipment; in collection and recording sample data.
Skill in verbal and written communication; interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
Ability to direct the activities of other personnel and read manuals and perform math calculations.
Must be a team player.
Education Requirements:
Must possess a HS diploma or GED equivalent with the ability to read, write and perform math calculations at a high school or equivalent level.
Experience sufficient to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprentice/internship or having held a similar position for one to three years.
Must possess and maintain or have the ability to obtain a Georgia Water Operator Class III certification within one year of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver’s License.
Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
