This position is responsible for accepting and understanding the training, and development of the skills necessary for the processing of wastewater through a sewage treatment plant. This position is an internship for Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (WWTP). Monitors overall treatment process and makes necessary adjustments as indicated by current conditions and standard and/or emergency operating procedures. Utilizes WWTP appurtenances to decontaminate wastewater (sewage) by settling, aeration, and sludge digestion. Monitors condition of machinery and equipment used to control the treatment processes, including minor maintenance (maintain oil levels, lubrication, and adjustments, etc.) as necessary for the proper operation and dependability of equipment. Performs sludge withdrawal, supernatant decanting, and unit drainage operations in a manner conducive to optimum process performance and minimal recycle loading. Collects wastewater samples and performs process control tests in compliance with the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit requirements and WWTP QA/QC guidelines. Maintains daily log of process in progress, process changes, and equipment status. Maintains daily record of samples collected and results of all process control testing, including computer data entry of process control results. Performs routine cleaning of tanks, equipment and work areas as warranted by current conditions. Performs general housekeeping, painting, and grounds keeping duties as specified by the Operations Supervisor. Assures that the current WWTP process status is communicated to the Chief Operator and other involved persons; and assists in assuring minimum staffing requirements are met. Workweek: 6 on 2 off; Shift Work Schedule: Day (7am to 3pm); Primarily Evening (3pm to 11pm) and Night (11pm to 7am); Nonexempt/Full-time w/benefits.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High School Diploma or GED with the ability to read, write and perform wastewater mathematical calculations. Biology or chemistry classes helpful.
Must be able to obtain a State of Georgia Class III Wastewater Operator license within 12 months of employment.
Basic computer skills.
Must be able to work weekends, holidays and assigned shifts (day, evening, night or fill-in).
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license within the state of residency.
Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
Must possess and maintain a valid drivers’ license.
