Work Schedule: M-F; 8am-5pm; FT w/benefits; Non-Exempt
General Description:
The Parking Enforcement Officer is responsible for parking patrol and monitoring of on-street spaces in the downtown area, the parking decks and the city managed rental lots. The employee will be a front-line City contact for merchants, property owners, residents, and visitors’ downtown. Patrol and inspect public parking areas for parking violations; monitor traffic to minimize congestion in downtown business and shopping areas. Issue parking citations to parking violators. Assist downtown merchants in identifying potential problems and resolving existing problems. Provide information, instructions and answer questions. Relay complaints and suggestions to Downtown Development Director or Parking Services Manager. Assist with repairs and maintenance of parking equipment, decks and lots. Perform financial audits of pay machines. Provide on-call services one weekend per month. Assist the Downtown Development Office on projects as needed. Provide data from handheld computer for reports as required. Essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Work Experience Requirements:
Knowledge of state laws, city ordinances, traffic laws, parking regulations, and departmental rules and regulations.
Knowledge of geographical layout of the City.
Knowledge of parking enforcement computer software and hardware.
Skill in written and verbal communication.
Employee must possess good judgment and carry out assignments and/or duties independently and establish priorities.
Must work well with people.
Minimum Requirements:
HS Diploma or G.E.D. Equivalent.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic duties of the position usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having held a similar position for one to two years.
Must possess general knowledge of automated systems, hardware and software.
Must possess or be able to obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
