JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this classification is to perform general/manual work functions associated with maintenance for the County Jail Facility. Assists in monitoring and providing direction to inmates assigned to work area. Performs other related duties as required.
MAJOR DUTIES: Installs, repairs and maintains various plumbing systems, drainage systems, and electrical systems, according to specifications and applicable codes. Performs various skilled/semi-skilled and manual work functions associated with installing, repairing, and maintaining County plumbing systems, drainage systems, heating and air conditioning systems (such as repairing leaks in water lines, clearing blocked drains/commodes/sinks, replacing faucet washers, rebuilding flush valves, installing/repairing gas lines, maintaining boiler units, cutting/threading pipe, assembling/installing valves and pipes, welding metal components, cutting wall/floor openings to accommodate pipes/fittings, changing air filters, greasing equipment, etc.).Assists in performing various specialized and manual work functions associated with maintaining County equipment and facilities (such as carpentry, electrical work, repairing/maintaining heating/air conditioning systems, moving furniture, assembling furniture or mechanical components, cleaning building exteriors, etc.).Observes operation of installed systems and equipment to detect hazards and identify need for adjustment or replacement. Operates a variety of machinery, equipment, and tools associated with installing, repairing, and maintaining County plumbing systems, drainage systems, heating and air conditioning systems (which may include a utility vehicle, computer, sewer machine, sewage grinder, drill press, welder, torch, electric vise and threader, drill, saws, pump, volt ohmmeter, plumbing tools, power tools, mechanic tools, two-way radio, etc.).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver's License. Must attend and pass Basic Jail Officer Certification Training Course within 12 months from hire date. The employee must be able to work a rotating on call schedule for after hour emergencies.
