Work Schedule: M-F; 8-5; 1hr lunch; Exempt; FT w/benefits

General Description:

Assists the Training Chief with planning, coordinating, and implementing procedures for the training of Fire Department personnel.  Assists in developing plans and supervising in-service training activities to comply with accepted firefighting standards. Supervises and grades certification tests/tasks; supervises daily training activities. Compiles, submits, and monitors training records. Train new personnel as needed by the department. Secures adequate training aids, materials and resources related to training objectives. Assists in writing and distributing training information and memos. Assists with scheduling and coordinating annual drill program. Assists in the development and administration of hiring/promotional assessments. Establishes standard training references and procedures for daily in-service training. Assists with coordinating training activities with local industry. Conducts scheduled inspections and tests of equipment and apparatus. Assists Fire Department Administration with special projects as needed. Work Experience Requirements:

•Knowledge of firefighting principles, techniques, equipment, apparatus and tools; job duties at each level of the department; training programs adopted by the Georgia State Fire Academy; training requirements of Fire Department personnel for state certification and ISO standards.

•Knowledge of departmental standard operating procedures; of first aid/EMS training.

•Skill in developing and presenting training programs, as certified by the NFPA; in supervision; planning and organizing; in interpersonal relations and human behavior; in oral and written communication; in the use of audio-visual equipment.

•Skill in computer programs to include Excel, Word, Office, Cameo, etc.

Education Requirements:

•Requires successful completion of forty-five (45) college semester hours (non-remedial courses with a grade “C” or better) or 600 verifiable training hours.

•Possess or have the ability to obtain and maintain all requirements/certifications of the Georgia Firefighter Standards and Training Council, City of Rome, and the Rome Floyd Fire Department.

•Possess a valid driver’s license of sufficient class to operate an emergency vehicle.

•Possess or have the ability to obtain the required Hazardous Materials Operation Level, Medical First Responder Instructor, and CPR Instructor certifications within twelve (12) months of employment.
