General Description:
This part time position works under the general direction of the E.C.O. Center Manager and the Director of Neighborhood Sustainability. This position is responsible for supporting the daily operations of the E.C.O. Center. Objectives include technical support for the day-to-day operations of the E.C.O. Center including maintenance of the water systems supporting the tank systems, aquatic wildlife, reptiles, and other live animals housed at the E.C.O. Center. Feeds the aquatic wildlife, reptiles, and other live animals housed at the E.C.O. Center. Provides support for environmental education to the community, coordinates with surrounding public and private school systems and educators to provide programming in compliance with the Georgia Performance Standards regarding biology, ecology, and geographic principles of this region. Schedules, teaches and educates grades K-12 and conducts educational programs for college students, civic organizations, and other community groups concerning Georgia’s wildlife and natural resources with a specific focus on the ecology of Northwest Georgia. Coordinates programming with existing City and County departments, tourism and recreation departments, established non-profit groups such as the Wildlife Federation, Trout Unlimited, Ducks Unlimited and State/Federal agencies involved with natural resource education and preservation. Basic knowledge of records required by law for the health and well-being of all permitted wildlife on display at the E.C.O. Center. Develops, coordinates and implements short term and long term goals for the E.C.O. Center, build or develop new exhibits that showcase wildlife and the natural resources of Georgia. Ensures the E.C.O. Center is maintained in a professional manner for public display while ensuring the safety of animals and visitors to the center. Serves as a wildlife technician with knowledge of laws and regulations relevant to wildlife to ensure compliance with such regulations. Assists with ordering supplies and inputs payroll information into MUNIS. Essential job functions are not to be construed as a complete statement of all duties performed. Work Experience Requirements:
•Extensive knowledge of wildlife management practices with a focus on fisheries biology; understand principles of microbiology and macro biology, natural succession in plant and animal kingdoms, geography, soil erosion, storm water management, watershed management, natural resource management and basic ecological principles.
•General understanding of land use planning and geologic principles of northwest Georgia.
•Skill in verbal and written communication with an ability to captivate audiences of all age groups to teach and instruct ecology.
•Skill in coordinating volunteers. Ability to supervise assistants and make scheduling assignments.
•General maintenance abilities and operating knowledge of various power tools, small pumps, and filtration devices.
•Skill in marketing, public speaking and fundraising; skill in operating computers, telephone systems, and MUNIS.
•Ability to set up demonstration areas and programs, and to teach skills to individuals of all ages; and a desire to work with children outdoors.
Education Requirements:
•Ten years of professional experience in wildlife resource management and/or natural resource conservation; OR graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in ecology or related field. Current first aid and CPR certifications required.
•Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from state of residency.
