General Description:
The Director of Tennis is responsible for planning, organizing, scheduling and supervising of a comprehensive tennis program, the Rome Tennis Center (RTC) and the Downtown Tennis Center (DTC). The Director is the Chief Executive Officer for tennis operations and will report to the City Manager. The Director will be required to work closely and collaboratively with key leaders in Rome, particularly the President of Berry College, Executive Director of the Greater Rome Convention and Visitors Bureau, The Rome Sports Commission Director, the President of the Coosa Valley Tennis Association, and the staff of Rome Tennis Academy. The Director of Tennis will work to build a strong reputation as a world class tennis tournament destination. Represent the Tennis Centers in all business and financial matters, including facility logistics and usage policies; and negotiating and executing contracts. Process Purchasing/requisitions for office supplies, products and equipment. Provide self-produced event management/tournament director to fulfill registration, on site athletic trainers/medical, draw boards, court assignments (for event play and event practice), and coordinate/hiring/compensating of tournament officials; recruit, hire, train and manage all RTC and DTC staff. Ability to secure financial and in-kind sponsorships and write grants for additional funding. Ability to establish operating policies and procedures; market and promote events and activities; oversee daily operations of tennis campuses, Pro shop, and food services. Oversee court scheduling of both facilities and assist CVTA in coordination of volunteers as needed. Oversee construction, maintenance and repair of facilities and equipment. The Director will oversee the interns, Berry students and will have the opportunity to teach the program. Develop budgets; plan and establish Tennis Center goals. Work Experience Requirements:
Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) rules and regulations, a plus.
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite application with the ability to become proficient with Tyler Technologies and other software required to perform job duties.
Demonstrated commitment to customer service.
Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills along with good interpersonal and problem solving skills.
Ability to foster a team environment by supporting cohesive work relationships and providing effective conflict resolution.
Ability to develop short and long term goals for the facilities in order to promote effectiveness and efficiency.
Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with subordinates, management, elected officials and the general public.
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Sports Administration or closely related field with minimum of five (5) to seven (7) years’ experience in the tennis industry in a leadership/management capacity with a sizable tennis facility or club; Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred.
Must be active within the United States Tennis Association (USTA), Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) or United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA).
Elite or Master Professional Certification with United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA); or Professional/Master of Tennis Certification with the Professional Tennis Registry (PTR) desired.
Residency in Rome-Floyd County is required; must relocate within one (1) year from date of hire.
Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license from state of residency.
