JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of this classification is to perform the work functions associated with service of Court documents and processes, execute writs, provide courtroom and office security and respond to requests for information related to the Magistrate Court.
MAJOR DUTIES:
Processes a variety of documentation associated with departmental operations, per established procedures and within designated time frames; distributes documentation or maintains records as appropriate. Serves papers and processes issued by the courts (such as civil suits, dispossessories, subpoenas, foreclosures, citations, garnishments, Rule of Nisis, court notices, etc; serves documents to homes, places of employment, jails, or other locations within the County. Executes court orders (such as writs of possession, writs of eviction, distress warrants, writs of Fieri Facias, etc.; verifies proper execution of processes filed in court. Performs basic research functions to identify location of individuals to be served; organizes/prioritizes work. Provides courtroom security; maintains a security presence in the courtroom to ensure safety of court personnel, to identify/ prevent disturbances of court proceedings, and to identify/prevent potential violence or use of weapons. Provides security to staff members while transporting bank transactions. Operates and maintains a County motor vehicle used in the performance of duties. Operates a computer to research, review, enter and/or modify information in database. Prepares and/or receives various forms, reports, correspondence, court orders, warrants, bills, or other documents; reviews, completes, processes, forwards, maintains, and/or takes other action as appropriate. Copies and distributes correspondence, memoranda, reports, and other related materials. Maintains files and logs related to work activities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
igh School Diploma or GED; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia Driver’s License. Must be a P.O.S.T. Certified Law Enforcement officer as defined by the laws of Georgia. Must be authorized to carry a firearm at all times.
