General Description:
Under the general direction and supervision of the City of Rome/Floyd County Building Official, the Code Enforcement Officer enforcing a variety of applicable ordinances, codes and regulations related to nuisance housing, building codes, health and safety, blight, and other matters of public concern. Work is split between in-office and field work. This position will work closely with the Community Development Department staff.
Minimum Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate Degree from an accredited college or an accredited technical college involving Environment Studies, code compliance, or Construction Technology helpful; supplemented by one to two years previous experience and/or training involving code enforcement or a related field.
• Possess or ability to obtain within one (1) year of hire a valid International Code Council (ICC) Property Maintenance and Housing Inspector Certification.
• Possess effective problem solving skills and must have excellent administrative and interpersonal skills.
• Must have strong written and oral communications.
• Must possess the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity required in critical and/or unexpected situations involving risk.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with all types of people; Spanish desirable.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft software systems.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Class C driver’s license in state of residency.
• Must obtain National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) 100 and 700 within three (3) months of employment.
