EMA Rescue Unit

The Floyd County Emergency Management Agency Rescue Unit was formed to act as primary responders at the scene of a disaster or emergency. The unit is trained to assist other first response agencies such as County Police, Fire Departments and local EMTs to allow them to immediately attend to those most in need of urgent medical attention or other assistance.

The EMA Rescue Unit meets on the 1st Monday and 3rd Sunday of each month for meetings and trainings. For more information on volunteering contact EMA Tim Herrington at 706-236-5002.

CITIZENS EMERGENCY RESPONSE TEAM (CERT)

History of CERT

The Citizens Emergency Response Team (CERT) was created from a model developed by the City of Los Angeles Fire Department in 1987. Since 1994, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been promoting nationwide use of CERT and many communities have established these teams.
By becoming a CERT volunteer and completing the training, you can be better prepared for the unexpected. Whether it is an act of terrorism, a natural or a man-made disaster, you can be directly involved in saving and sustaining lives and property. Click here for a printable CERT brochure.

Why should I volunteer?

CERT training promotes a partnering effort between emergency services and the people they serve. The goal is for emergency personnel to train members of neighborhoods, community organizations or workplaces in basic response skills. CERT members are then integrated into the emergency response capability for their area.

Who should volunteer?

Citizen Corps asks everyone to embrace the personal responsibility to be prepared, to get training in first aid and emergency skills and to volunteer to support local emergency responders. Volunteers can come from groups including but not limited to:

• Communities of Faith
• Neighborhoods
• Scouting Organizations
• Schools
• Amateur Radio Groups
• Veterans
• Clubs & Organizations
• Businesses
