Department Overview

Closely related to the responsibilities of the Street Department are those of the traffic and Electrical Department. This group of trained professionals are responsible for the installation and maintenance of traffic signals throughout the City of Rome and under contract throughout Floyd County. Directional signs, roadway markings, and traffic control signs are placed by the department to aid motorists and ensure their safety.

Electrical crews of the department also install and maintain various electrical systems throughout the City, including ball fields, event stages and period lights on Broad Street. Department electricians provide the on-call electricial services for City of Rome buildings. Other facilities such as the clocktower, City water pumps and lift stations are also maintained by them.

The Department makes annual preparations for City celebrations. These preparations include the setting of patriotic flags, banners, maintaining the lighted flag over the confluence of the Rivers as well as Christmas lighting.
