Department Overview

The Engineering Department provides broad support through its interaction with all other areas of Public Works. The City Engineers perform basic field surveys for water, sewer and road construction. Their field work is then transformed at computer automated drafting stations into designs which can be turned over to the construction crews. The extensive files in the Engineering Department contain detailed maps of all parts of the City, most of which is now available to the public in digital format on our Engineering and Construction Resources page.

The City’s traffic engineers are continuously updating records provided by the City of Rome Police Department concerning traffic accidents and driving patterns in order to evaluate and design needed improvements.
